Can anyone have their teeth straightened with clear aligners?

Long gone are the days when everyone had to wear train track braces to have straight teeth. Clear aligners can help to straighten teeth whilst looking discreet enough so more often than not, people don’t know you’re having your teeth straightened while it’s going on.

The question remains though, can anyone have their teeth straightened with invisible braces?

Short answer: most people with healthy teeth and gums can.

Clear aligners can be used for many things from simple corrections to some quite complex treatments which need to be overseen by a specialist, one thing that is important regardless of how complex your treatment may be is that your teeth and gums are healthy before you start.

This means if you’ve been regularly attending a dentist for several years, there’s a good chance that you’re perfectly suitable for treatment.

Is SureSmile different to Invisalign?

At Smiles in Tandem we use SureSmile aligners because we think we can get the best results for our patients. SureSmile is a brand name, just as Invisalign is, the treatment is in essence very similar. Both brands use clear aligners to gently reposition the teeth to straighten them without the need for metal braces and wires.

Can you see invisible braces?

Clear aligners are a modern and discreet way to straighten your teeth and enhance your smile. Treatment usually consists of small white fillings being placed on the teeth which help the clear aligner trays that sit over the top to reposition the teeth using gentle pressure.

Whilst the white fillings and the clear aligner trays are not invisible, they’re much more discreet than the traditional metal brackets fixed on the outside of the teeth. At normal conversational distance, most people will struggle to be able to see them. Of course, you’ll know they’re there and be conscious of them, and you’ll certainly be able to see them close up in a mirror, but most other people will most likely not notice, unless you point them out.

Do I need to wear my aligners all the time?

It’s recommended to wear the aligners all the time except when eating. If the aligners are left out for an extended period of time, the teeth can start to move back and your treatment will take longer. Food can discolour or damage the aligners, and the force of chewing on them will cause wear and tear that may affect your treatment.

SureSmile aligners are designed using advanced digital technology to deliver precise, predictable results with minimal impact on your daily life.

What Is Teeth Straightening?

Teeth straightening gently moves teeth into healthier, more aligned positions. SureSmile clear aligners are custom-made, removable trays designed to gradually guide your teeth into place without the need for fixed metal braces.

SureSmile aligners are:

• Virtually invisible

• Comfortable and smooth

• Removable for eating and cleaning

What is the treatment process with SureSmile aligners?

1. Orthodontic Assessment

Your journey starts with a consultation where we assess your teeth, bite, and suitability for SureSmile treatment. We’ll discuss your goals and explain the expected outcomes.

2. Digital Scan & Smile Simulation

Using advanced digital scanning, we create a precise 3D model of your teeth. This allows us to design a personalised treatment plan and show you a digital simulation of how your smile will look at the end of treatment.

3. Custom SureSmile Aligner Fitting

Your bespoke SureSmile aligners are then created and fitted. You’ll wear each set for a short period, usually a couple of weeks each, with aligners working step-by-step to move your teeth into alignment.

4. Retainers & Maintaining Your Smile

Once treatment is complete, retainers are provided to maintain your new smile and prevent teeth from moving back.

How long does it take to straighten your teeth?

This very much depends on where your starting from. Small adjustments for mild crowding can take as little as six months, whereas bigger corrections, or those requiring multiple tweaks at the end of treatment can take anything up to a couple of years. In most cases, treatment with Suresmile aligners lasts less than twelve months.

How do I get started with aligner treatment?

If you’re just wanting to find out a little bit more, having a conversation chat with Georgi, on of our nurses and our treatment coordinator for Suresmile is your best starting point. She can give you more information on your suitability for treatment, how long it’s likely to take and what casts are involved.

Alternatively, you can book in with our dentist Dr Gus Sohal for a full consultation and take your first steps towards a confident smile, straight away.
